Ian Heft, MA, MA(CP), RP
Registered Psychotherapist
Owner and Clinical Director, Fundamental Health

Ian Heft has been a Registered Psychotherapist since 2021 but has worked for close to 15 years as a human services professional in a diverse range of settings including post-secondary education, community agencies and in the healthcare sector.

He specializes in the treatment of trauma and addiction and is a Certified Master Practitioner of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and has completed over 60 hours of training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

 

Bonnie Nelson, MA, RP(Q)
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Bonnie take a holistic therapeutic approach that is integrative and based in humanistic, compassion-focused, trauma-informed, and cognitive behavioural therapies.

She offers individual counselling to clients ages 18+ for concerns including depression/anxiety, trauma and attachment, intrusive thoughts, guilt/shame, panic, toxic relationships, obsessive compulsive tendencies, and perfectionism. 

 

Modalities we use:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is one of the most widely-known and well-developed therapy modalities in use today across the profession. It involves at looking into the connection between one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how biases or “thought distortions” in these areas can lead to presenting problems and unhelpful patterns

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a proven therapy using eye movements that shares some similarities with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocesisng (EMDR) therapy but which differs from it in several key ways. ART is seen to be incredibly, fast, effective and powerful and leads to lasting relief sometimes in as little as one session.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy focuses on dealing with strong or overpowering emotions and does this through teaching key skills in the 4 areas of Emotion Regulation, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness. These skills lead to increased abilities to control emotions and aim to help clients build a life worth living.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD

Cognitive Processing Therapy is a type of therapy that encourages clients to explore the impact that traumatic events have had on them through looking for what are known as “stuck points” – or beliefs that lead to the trauma staying unresolved. With repetitive practice and the teaching of new tools to drill down and understand and balance out these beliefs, clients can find effective and lasting relief.
