about me

Ian Heft

Ian Heft

Owner & Clinical Director

I am a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice based in Owen Sound, Ontario. I have been providing psychotherapy since September 2020, and have close to 15 years of work experience in the human services sector including in postsecondary student services, community agencies, crisis intervention, healthcare, language instruction and services to newcomers.

I specialize in addiction and trauma and am trained in several modalities that are effective treatments for the effects of PTSD, phobias and substance use disorders.

I specialize in:

Addictions

Compassionate support for recovery. Knowledge of supports available including medical detox, addiction medicine, harm reduction methods, treatment centres and therapeutic modalities.

Trauma, PTSD & Phobias

I am trained in the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and am familiar with other modalities including Internal Family Systems, and other trauma-focused interventions.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

DBT is a popular and proven modality for helping deal with emotion regulation. It is very practical and skills based and has a strong philosophy behind it about finding balance, being mindful and bringing more into your conscious awareness.

Cultural Safety

Extensive experience providing supports in First Nation communities. Clients are always encouraged to incorporate elements of their culture into their treatment or healing work. Assistance is provided to connect to any traditional supports or any agencies supporting Indigenous clients.

Approach & Philosophy

I embrace an approach of inclusivity and flexibility. I understand that life happens and believe that your therapy appointment should be the least stressful part of your day. There is no cost to re-schedule appointments, and you can always feel free to check in and book an appointment after an absence.

I meet people where they are, providing services through the lens of a harm reduction philosophy that prioritizes compassionate collaboration. All are welcome, and I have worked with clients across the spectrum of ability, culture, and gender/sexuality and orientation.

I am engaged in the process of making every effort to make therapy as accessible, affordable and effective for everyone!
